Research Expedition Preparation

  • Hand-in reading journal response to selected war-themed literary works.
  • Hand-in reading journal response to  “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker (p. 1090 in lit. book).
  • Overview of thesis-based research paper - stage III.
  • Prepare for your next traditional research paper by reviewing your topic options from the following literary periods & literary works: Naturalism, Modernism, Harlem Renaissance, Contemporary
  • Whole-class Inspiration Brainstorm: Which period and author will you focus on? What will you prove? Where should you begin? What will your thesis be?
  • Explore the resources available to you for each author. You must be able to access valid, reliable and valid resources that will allow you to:
    • explore the literary works (essays, poetry, prose, drama) of your author and literary criticism related to those works (if available)
    • learn about the biography of your author
    • explore the “text to world” connections for the author’s literary period
    • explore the “text to world” connections for the author’s literary works
  • Review our research expedition process and choose an author to focus on for this traditional research paper.

  • Begin work on Research Expedition Day 1 activities. Be sure to use these research tools and reference the Inspiration Brainstorm we completed (saved next to daily lesson).
  • Log-on to discussion board at www.turnitin.com and record your research progress (1 post minimum). Don't forget to follow these guidelines for online discussions.
  • If you know which author/period you will focus on, you may move on to Research Expedition Day 3
