Focus Point: Select a "being". Sketch it and describe it as fully as possible. Details in your sketch and written description of the "being" should indicate: color, size, texture, specific location and diversity (common or uncommon).
Once you have completed this, write a short creative piece in the voice of the "being".
Reflection
Thoreau went to the woods by Walden Pond to learn about nature and himself. He observed nature and reflected on what it had to teach him about life and his place in the universe.
Read the following passage from Walden, Thoreau's account of his two years in the woods, and reflect upon Thoreau's experiences as a nature journaler and your own.
"Morning is when I am awake and there is a dawn in me…to be awake is to be alive" (Thoreau).
