Honors English 11: Research Expedition
THEME: Exploring the "text to world" and "text to text" and author's "text to self" connections to selected book group text(s)
This particular research expedition will result in a traditional thesis-based research paper (Competency # 3).
As you prepare for this research expedition, you will be reading one or more literary works by one of the following authors:

What are you researching?
You are looking for valid, reliable and accurate sources which offer the following:
- biographical information about the author
- information about the historical and social contexts in which the author lived and wrote
- resources which further explore "text to world" connections you established while reading the literary work(s)
- resources which further explore "text to text" connections you established while reading the literary work(s)
- resources which further explore questions or connections you discovered while researching your topic
Note: As a book group, you will share research sources via NoodleTools. As an individual, you will each be responsible for conducting your own research and posting your own findings.

How will you know if what you find is a good resource?
First, the source must be valid, reliable and accurate. (Although a quick wiki search could lead you to a good source, it will not be acceptable as a resource.)
You should always validate a resource by comparing information from one source with other sources available in a variety of formats.
Don't forget to look beyond print texts (digital or hard copy). Research sources such as podcasts and videos can be great resources. |

What should I do once I find what I want?
- print/photocopy/checkout the source
- go to NoodleTools.com and create a bibliographic citation for this source (share this with Mrs. Juster and your group)
- read the source and complete the literacy strategy of your choice (annotations/highlights/sticky notes or one of these strategies/activities)
- if the source is non-print (such as a podcast or video), hold on to your thinking by writing a summary of the content and identifying any connections/comments/questions.
All done? Not yet. Repeat this process. You will need a total of three sources (minimum) to complete this research expedition. |
