Focus Point:  Find two different and diverse "beings" such as a plant and a tree. Focus in and then sketch. Details in your sketch and written description of each "being" should indicate: color, size, texture, specific location and diversity (common or uncommon).

Reflection

Thoreau went to the woods by Walden Pond to learn about nature and himself. He observed nature and reflected on what it had to teach him about life and his place in the universe. 

 

Read the following passage from Walden,  Thoreau's account of his two years in the woods, and reflect upon Thoreau's experiences as a nature journaler and your own.

"My purpose in going to Walden Pond was not to live cheaply …but to transact some private business with the fewest obstacles… I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived" (Thoreau).
