Prepare Your Vocabulary Log for Turn-It-In Portfolio


Before you upload your vocabulary log to your portfolio at www.turnitin.com, you may need to reduce the file size by following these steps.

Directions for MS Word 2007

Close your vocabulary log and check the file size. When completed, this document can’t be larger than 200 MB. If your file is larger than 200MB you must complete the following steps to reduce the overall file size of the document.

Step 1: Click on a picture in the document.

Step 2: Under the format tab select “compress pictures”.

Step 3: Select apply to all pictures.

Step 4: Select  “options”

Step 5: Select Email (96 dpi)

Step 6: Press “Control + A” and then clear/remove the formatting of all the text in the document. (If you copied a table from your dictionary source when you copied the definition, remove the table and keep only the text.)

Step 7:  Remove any hyperlinks or urls.

Step 8:  Save and check the file size. Your document should now be below 200 MB.

 

 

Directions for MS Word 2003

Close your vocabulary log and check the file size. When completed, this document can’t be larger than 200 MB. If your file is larger than 200MB you must complete the following steps to reduce the overall file size of the document.

Step 1: Open the document and open the picture toolbar if it isn’t already open.

Step 2: Click on a picture in the document.

Step 3: In the picture toolbar, select “compress pictures”

Step 4: The compress pictures menu will then pop up. Select “apply to all pictures in document”.

Step 5:  Then select “web/screen” which will give you a resolution of  96 dpi. Then select “OK” and “Apply”.

Step 6: Press “Control + A” and then clear/remove the formatting of all the text in the document. (If you copied a table from your dictionary source when you copied the definition, remove the table and keep only the text.)

Step 7:  Remove any hyperlinks or urls.

Step 8:  Save and check the file size. Your document should now be below 200 MB.
