American Experience: Spring Research Expedition


THEME: 42: The Jackie Robinson Story

This particular research expedition will result in a traditional thesis-based research paper (Competency # 3).

To prepare for this research expedition, you…

  • Viewed, read and responded to 42: The Jackie Robinson Story
  • reviewed the overall structure of the thesis-based research paper
  • reviewed the research process
  • completed brainstorming activities 

What are we researching?

Together, we are looking for valid, reliable and accurate sources which offer answers  or connections to the questions/comments we identified in our brainstorming activities. 

How will we know if what we find is a good resource?

First, the source must be valid, reliable and accurate. (Although a quick wiki search could lead you to a good source, it will not be acceptable as a resource.) If necessary, we will validate a resource by comparing information from one source with other sources available in a variety of formats.  

Resources for Research:


Day # 1:

  • Find an article related to 42: The Jackie Robinson Story. Your options include topics like: race, sports, color barrier, integration, and Jackie Robinson. 

Then do this:

  • Print up a hard copy of the source.
  • Highlight and annotate the article.
  • Create an MLA citation for the source to put in a "Works Cited". You can use Noodle-Tools,  Easybib or MLA Style Center.

  • Find another article related to 42: The Jackie Robinson Story. It can be on the same topic that you did earlier or on something else you'd liek to explore.  Your options include topics like: race, sports, color barrier, integration, and Jackie Robinson.
